1752.
A Lyon. Chez les Héritiers de Beringos Fratres à
l'Enseigne d'Agrippa
16mo.
245 + (6) pages. Several engravings in full page and in the
text, including a large folding plate. Title in red & black.
Contemporary full calf binding with red morocco label, on hinge
split on 5 cm. Marbled edges and enpapers.
Interior complete and in good condition.
One of the most famous grimoires ever printed.
Like the "Grand Albert", this "Petit Albert"
is spuriously attributed to Albertus Magnus but is probably
a later creation.
However, unlike the "Grand Albert", the grimoire openly
deals in ceremonial black magic, what is almost unique for a
book printed before 1800. The text is illustrated by many explicit
engravings and tables. Although there were several printings
during the 18th Century , that kind of edition has become extremely
hard to find and is avidly sought after.
